Long story short, they’re on fairy tale rules now. And the polite young lady who pays careful attention to what the mystical beings say is the most dangerous person around.
I think politeness IS 84’s greatest superpower, just as comon sense is Moonshadow’s… Hmm… I wonder what other characters in this series are like that, that their greatest superpowers are mundane things that get overshadowed by the obvious…
Seconded. Seriously, anyone who has not read the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia Wrede – first chance you get, go to the bookstore or library, get ’em, and read ’em. Those are probably my family’s favorite books after “The Lord of the Rings”.
I can’t wait to see how the arrogance and condescension of the others are going to be their undoing while 84’s respect, humility, and friendliness gives her an edge.
Oh good a gift shop as well. 😉 And 84 demonstrates yet again why I think she will ‘win’ this contest. Politeness is a very good trait. It serverd her well when she and emerald gauntlet contested and it will serve her well here.
Is it just me, or did the way he refer to her sound similar to how he referred to the card he needed? Usually everything about these hint people is important, as much what they are doing as what they say.
I think his game of cards is just that – a game of cards, something to pass the time whilst waiting at the gate to greet newcomers. As to his saying ‘four-score-and-still-four-more’, that’s probably just his way of saying 84 (which he can clearly read on her outfit).
Time and the author, however, will prove which one of us is more correct…
I rather like the implied point in the first panel: that mundane intelligence is just as potent a force as any superpower. Another point in 84’s favour – she’s a clear and straightforward thinker when she needs to be.
I was too lazy to click back the archives and find this, but then Moe Lane linked to PhoenixPaw’s comment above and gave me a shortcut. Grateful for the opportunity, because I am curious, even if incurably lazy.
I think 84 has made a new friend.
And 84 shows that basic manners is still one of her greatest superpowers.
Long story short, they’re on fairy tale rules now. And the polite young lady who pays careful attention to what the mystical beings say is the most dangerous person around.
When dealing with fairy tales, politeness always is the best solution. Try reading the “Enchanted Forest Chronicles” and you will understand.
Love that series.

Argh. No Kindle edition?
You’ll be happy to hear that there is now a Kindle edition: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0749XHT1L/?ie=UTF8&qid=&ref_=tmm_kin_swatch_0&sr=
Enjoy 🙂
You were so right.
Is the clock finally caught up? Or is it only good in this pocket dimension?
Where’s a Time Lord when you need one?
At the local pub.
Next Tuesday.
No! Not a gift shop!
..That actually sounds like an upgrade for Manhattan.
And like the number seven is a hint.
Given that seven is a mystically attuned number, it’s likely just pointing out (again) that Veles is ‘teh magic dood’.
I can’t wait to see how the arrogance and condescension of the others are going to be their undoing while 84’s respect, humility, and friendliness gives her an edge.

“Lady of four score and still four more”… I like that one…
Why does that feel like a clue to me? Watch for future references to twice an answer to life, the universe and everything as well.
Two score & still two more? 😉
84
….so not a Tarot deck, he’s playing solitaire ?
yes. clock solitaire, to be precise, he needs the fifteen of fifteen (3:15 PM)
Is it just me, or did the way he refer to her sound similar to how he referred to the card he needed? Usually everything about these hint people is important, as much what they are doing as what they say.

I’m rooting for 84, of course. But I can’t help but think that Manhattan would be a lot better off with Veles in charge. 🙂
Would you like your new Manhattan with or without dragons Tom Gwynn?
As long as I get to enjoy the pleasure palaces, does it matter? 😛
I am thinking the dragons would lower crime, increase tourism, and be a benefit no matter how you look at it.
At least until the city tried to tax them! That’s going to be more than a little difficult.
Cities don’t tax dragons, dragons tax cities!

I had a friend play a game of solitare using a tarot deck once….
Their postman died.
I think it was one of Stephen Wright’s routines:
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.
Sorry, Steven Wright.
According to http://www.surnamedb.com/Surname/Grigor , Grigor is “The Watchful One”
That “fifteen and a quarter” and “Grigor” is probably only heard and/or paid attention to by 84. Two things that will turn out to be key in the end.
Well…. you were right.
+1
So who here made the track back from April 27, 2015 just to check?
I’m actually posting from 2006. Time travel shenanigans aren’t illegal in 2015, are they? 😛
They’re legal for everyone but Zodon.

I did, but I did so by going further back in time (beginning of issue) and then running forward to this point.
