And Kid Powers is busted by Necronomik. I guess it was too much to hope for that the hooded guy in 2018-12-09 wasn’t him. Let’s hope Toby knows how to come up with a credible explanation.
I was going to ask why Ron didn’t simply phase through with his powers, but then he’s still learning and only intended to get to Moon Shadow, not go past the wall.
I find Necronomik’s opening question about how if he asks will they *both* regret it. I get the impression he’s testing the proverbial waters to assess the situation, which puts my perception of his competence significantly above several of his teammates.
Let’s hope so insofar as it makes him a Reasonable Authority Figure (TV Trope) towards Kid Powers. As someone who helped separate and contain the Chaotic portion of Toby’s powers, he should understand why Toby wants to keep those away and thus allow Moon Shadow to succeed.
Also, is this the first time we’ve seen the redhead woman confirmed as Dynamode? As in she was explicitly called by that name? (IIRC, I think so.) Yeah, we guessed she was, it was pretty obvious, but confirmation is a good thing.
Look at the first panel – Moonshadow just lost his grip on the chaos container… several stories above ground. I hope the container is really robust; otherwise there’s going to be a chaos explosion in 3… 2… 1…
I don’t believe that they’re above ground – Dynamode appears to be standing on the grass. It may be possible that lower levels are below ground, and that’s why they’re on level 3.
OK, I see the point. I thought it was way up with them looking down on treetops, but it could be ground level with them next to some shrubs. It makes more sense to have public areas at ground level, so I am thinking I interpreted it wrong.
That doesn’t answer the question, though, which was “why Cecil’s girlfriend?” Why not “Tyler’s” or “Toby’s” or “Zodon’s?” Or literally anybody who might be listening? Naming Cecil implies there’s been some interaction or at least expressed interest on Cecil’s part, even if it’s spurious or clearly not what Cecil meant. I’m asking what I missed that makes the Flea specifically name Dynamode as “Cecil’s girlfriend.” I get that he’s teasing. I just don’t get the underlying logic. And there’s always some underlying logic.
He’s a kid at the age to characterize people as romantic partners at the drop of a hat just because they’re opposite sexes and willing to be in each other’s presences. I mean, not everyone goes through that time period – I didn’t. But the Flea certainly does.
I’m well aware of that time period, because I was always willing to hang out with girls – they tended to punch less – and so for a while I had a *lot* of “girlfriends”. Sigh.
The Flea’s mentality + http://ps238.nodwick.com/comic/2017-01-30/ would be enough. Sure, Cecil’s comment doesn’t indicate any romantic feelings. But to the Flea, or many other young boys of around his age, expressing a preoccupation with someone like Cecil admitted in panel 1 would be enough.
Dynamode should be able to piece it together. She already hinted to Tyler’s parents that one of the Moonshadow/Cecil pair might be Tyler (http://ps238.nodwick.com/comic/2018-05-20/). So it shouldn’t take much for her to realize who Moonshadow is.
Here’s hoping the established “It’s amazing what people will overlook even when it’s right in front of them” (05082009) comes into play even in her case. Hopefully, Dynamode comes up with some sort of erroneous rationalization that leads to conclude otherwise.
Maybe it’s a small mercy to skip the keystone cops moment? Sadly they pushed a kid into someone’s arms who has not been much of a hero. ‘Ends justify the means,’ is a slippery slope
She told Tyler’s “parents” where Tyler was based on the tracking device.
Cecil had slipped the device into his pocket.
They split up.
Dynamode later decided that Toby must have messed with the device.
My guess is she either didn’t see them that well or she saw that it was the other guy her device followed.
Just a comment: the artwork just seems to be getting uglier & uglier. I mean, Toby looks like he’s got a mustache here, and I don’t think it’s from his powers. Aaron, it’s ok to do these in black & white, really; the color versions just look weird. I’m guessing you’re using a “bucket” tool (like what’s in programs like Paint & Pshop) to fill in blocks of color — it’s just not working here. I love the story and the comic, but please — ditch the color. You did much better with B&W only.
For whatever it’s worth, I disagree, and think the art is just fine. I won’t say it’s bad if you go back to black and white, but I don’t think it’s needed, nor would I expect an increase in artistic quality if it happened, simply because I don’t see any issues with the art now nor drop-off in quality from when black and white was the norm.
Now, if they came out FASTER in black and white, maybe that’d be worth it, but…I do like the color.
Cecil is returned to us, but ultima is dead.
He is not as dearly missed.
Slightly suffocated due to demon-cloth in face, at most.
And he doesn’t sound like his brain requires much oxygen at better times.
He was only smothered by that overexcited rug and then possibly flew into the wall. Probably not even new experiences.
Whump! Whump! Whump! Whump! Whump!
…
Medic!
..
Oh, and a bricklayer!
Dammit, Jim!
“um… Tyler will be here when >I< decide it's safe!"
Bit of a ‘Platform 9 & 3/4’ moment there.

He has the ultimate get of jail free card, though. Just say that his powers tell him that this will lead to the best outcome.

And if what is suspected is their intention then he wouldn’t want to need to keep his distance from his brother if it’s successful.

I think this is the first time….

Is he a couple stories off the ground? Hard to tell. It looks to me as though they are at ground level. In which case the orb should be alright.

Go back and check the panel where Flea gets a chaperone to open the window so Cecil can get in. You can see that it’s ground level.
For some reason I always pictured the Heros HQ as a flying citadel. Not sure why.
Remind me: what prompts the Flea to characterize Dynamode as “Cecil’s girlfriend?”
an ingrained tendency to prick the ego of every one around him at every opportunity?

Cecil’s been freaking out about knowing her, despite not knowing her. Flea’s been treating this as ‘secret wants her as girlfriend’.
Ah, okay. I’d forgotten he was freaking out about knowing her. That’s what I was missing.
Thanks!

Considering Kid Powers hasn’t realized Tyler = Moon Shadow until now, there should be a good chance Dynamode fails to make the connection.
I herewith demand that we get a slo-mo replay of Ultima and Sovereign faceplanting into the wall. Pics or it didn’t happen!

Or she saw how Coatzilla was eating everything and decided it ate the tracker.
