Inheritance. Now that’s a tough one. It’s sizeable and he obviously gets thwarted (his Power got Grounded! 😉 ) when its not available, but if this succeeds or if he gets a shot at equal or greater riches or the ability to dictate to his family then it also is a poor thing to swear upon. But since she is smarter (as in wiser) I think she has the upper (bracered) hand anyway.
He’s a Dr Doom expy. Doom has honour, by his own definition, and would never break his word (although he might interprete it … creatively), and only turn on his family if it was really important or he convinced himself they’d turned on him first.
Alex obviously thinks the pledge is worth something (or why have him make it) and she’s not only super-intelligent but knows her brother better than we do.
I have no idea if the specific name/designation of the universe is going to be important or not in future issues, but it’s worth noting down anyways. =P
And this is why he should have had not only a siphon to pick up a miniscule fraction of the energy of a universe (which would likely dwarf any fusion pile that would fit in our solar system) for the next few incursions, but also had it run at least a few incursions in a row automatically so he could maintain power for the duration of the deaths of multiple universes.
