Also possible that he gets them from people who *used* to have super powers. Let’s hope I’m wrong, though. Oh, and let’s hope Ron stops being a whiney douche, and cuts Moon Shadow a break.
I don’t know how deeply the author’s going to dig into his motivations, but his being whiny and blaming ‘Moon Shadow’ for everything started when his parents were getting divorced.
That can mess a real kid up, especially if he doesn’t have anyone to talk to and/or his parents drag him into any of the drama. If the kid had superpowers, it’d could get even more complicated.
It’s a pity the school doesn’t have a good social worker. Being a government test project, it’s kind of surprising too.
Ron’s response in the wake of the latest mess was somewhat encouraging, even when he was talking to “Moon Shadow” and not just to Tyler’s “normal” persona. It may be that he still has a long way to go, but nevertheless – I think he’s taken a step in that direction. Remains to be seen if he’ll keep going that way, of course.
Or he could’ve potentially had recessive meta genes from his mother that haven’t manifested. Even if she doesn’t have powers, humanity does apparently have the potential for meta powers to develop in this universe, so Ron might develop a *new* set of powers.
Or, he’s just subconsciously didn’t want the powers and so a temp powerblock became longer. I kind of like seeing him go through the mirror experience Tyler did, singled out because he used to/still has secrets/has potential but has no control what others expect. I have to wonder what Cecil wants long term, or is he being kind, thinking Ron should know.
I think that Cecil is being kind. I mean, he’s turning out to be a superhero in training himself, right? – Or at least a Nick Fury super-spy agency head, at least.
Very good agent… Very good. indeed. Lord knows we cant trust “at-less” aka forak to defend earth. Best to fix up ron to rights so he can be a hero and a good kid. again good work agent Holmes.
Go back to when Ron was complaining about feeling the cold on the spaceship–how it felt ‘pricklier’. Remember that? I’m pretty sure that was Aaron’s first dropped hint about this twist. It could also indicate that Ron’s going to be our Iceman expy in future—if there is a future.
Somehow I get the feeling that now that Cecil said this its canon. There is no actual proof but I’m guessing this is Aarons way of telling us whats happening. Honestly up until this comic I saw the bully incadent as Cecil sensing a power the bully already had but did not know about or use yet. I saw Ron a little like if somebody’s sole ability was having functional wings but there wings are plucked out. Hman for all intents and purposes but should still trip a general power sensor if you did before.
Charles bergman I think. he who is now underguard greyhound.- the teleporter dude And whom I still wanna kick in the face. the little snot- if it WASNT for him Rons folks would still be married and he wouldnt have suffered a mental breakdown like he did right before he went to pretorian academy. (he smashed a car hood in with his clarinet)
The captains parents would not still be together. They didn’t get divorced because Ron hit someone. That’s just what Ron thinks. If not for Charles it may have taken a few more days, or weeks, but they still would have gotten divorced.
(I know this conversation is old and I doubt anyone’s going to see this, but this is something I want to say regardless.)
Actually, there’s something that’s been bugging me about “Ron thinking his parents broke up because he hit Charles thing”. Did Ron even actually *tell* his parents about it? I don’t think he did. On the page of issue 19 where we see Ron in his “fortress of solitude”, while Ron’s mom is on the phone with Atlas, she specifically says “I don’t know what happened to Ron today, but…” (actually, the rest of that phone conversation shows that those two were probably a divorce waiting to happen anyway)
Then, fast forward a few issues to Secret of the S.i.i.T.S. – 9000. Ron tells his dad that he’s “learning not to make mistakes anymore” and Atlas replies with “Ron, buddy, I don’t know what you think you’ve done wrong, but -” (and then is unfortunately interrupted before he can finish. http://ps238.nodwick.com/comic/10262009/ http://ps238.nodwick.com/comic/10192012/
TL,DR: Not only did Ron hitting Charles not cause Ron’s parents to get divorced, I don’t think they even *knew* about it. Also, I am a huge nerd, and this is way longer than it probably needs to be. Yeesh.
Lara (Ron’s Mom) called Atlas when Ron was super upset after hitting Charles;
[HEADCANNON]
Atlas was too busy to come home and be a Dad. leaving Lara to deal with it alone and Ron not opening up about it because it was “superhero” stuff”;
[/HEADCANNON]
Lara declares it the last straw and the divorce begins.
So, yeah, I agree with Partigal, it probably would have been more than a “few days”, but eventually, Lara was gonna hit that last straw with Ul-Ron and divorce his clueless ass. Ul-Ron isn’t exactly a bad parent, he was a bit neglectful like many parents with “important jobs” can be, but he was a terrible husband about it (and Lara wasn’t a great wife).
Actually they were both “bad parents” in different ways. They’d probably gave been great together //if they never had a child//, or if they just stayed in New York and were better about time management with their son. I suspect if Lara had remained a world celebrated, globe trotting journalist she’d have been just as neglectful of Ron as Atlas was, nut he could have been raised by a nanny/babysitters and might have turned out okay, one pr the other parent kinda always around, but basically without them most of the time.
No, what killed their marriage was only one parent having to give up their career while the other was neglectful, and the sacrificer’s growing resent over it.
(I know this conversation is old and I doubt anyone’s going to see this, but this is something I want to say regardless.)

That’s some food for thought. The only question is will our glasses “completely normal person” will want them back.
Also possible that he gets them from people who *used* to have super powers. Let’s hope I’m wrong, though. Oh, and let’s hope Ron stops being a whiney douche, and cuts Moon Shadow a break.

If it were a real kid, I’d expect his problems to grow worse until he was found or was taught some way of dealing with the stuff he gets at home.
This being a comic, I don’t know that he’ll ever address the issue again.
Well Ron is only half human after all so~
Well I kinda hope he get’s superpowers again… But only after he gets over his issues.

I’m just glad to see Ron’s at PS238 and not praetorian academy.
You superpowers are being rebooted. Please wait …

Remind me… did Cecil ever ping somebody who didn’t have powers -yet-?

This.
My gut feeling about how that went down:
Lara (Ron’s Mom) called Atlas when Ron was super upset after hitting Charles;
[HEADCANNON]
Atlas was too busy to come home and be a Dad. leaving Lara to deal with it alone and Ron not opening up about it because it was “superhero” stuff”;

Aaand I accidentally posted this twice. Whoops.
