They aren’t bad people… they’re just shite parents and borderline abusive.
I say borderline because while they’re neglectful and push their normal son into dangerous territory, they think it’s safe because “surely he’ll manifest his powers that way”. It’s only slightly worse (in a supers meta-context) than not giving your kid a training wheels or floaties learning phase and expecting them to jump straight into riding a bike or swimming, and then foisting the responsibility off onto others. That last part is probably good though, at least Ron Sr knew Ron Jr was invulnerable before throwing him at a crook’s getaway car, not completely sure these two have that level of clarity (we haven’t seen them being quite that bad).
Atlas acted out of genuine love, these two act out of narcissism.
