Y’know, there’s a really subtle point being made here. Remember that Flea called these kids “stupid-powered”? And that these kids are in Rainmaker because their powers supposedly aren’t good for crime-fighting? There’s heavily-implied prejudice going on against those who aren’t useful as “normal” superheroes. We hear it more with Revenant’s comments about his lack of powers later; we see it with Tyler’s parents; we’ll watch it in action with the career fair.
Yet what’s Rev done here? He’s taken those same kids and blown that prejudicial BS out of the water. He’s shown them that they can be every bit as valuable and effective as the “normal” superheroes, and you can see it in the kids’ excited faces and words. What Rev’s done here will have even more profound effects on these kids than any of PS238’s teaching — y’know, the school that values them so little that the super-powered teachers don’t bother with them, and instead slough them off on a non-meta human, in classes segregated from the other kids. These kids get the message daily: “we can’t be bothered to figure out how you might be an effective crime fighter, so you need to be pushed into the private sector and regular jobs.”
Revenant’s creative thinking and “anything works” attitude will do wonders for these kids.
It started with Harold. He made them useful as he used them to “break them out” of PS238. Rev just showed them they could be useful without Harold fiddling with their powers. Not condoning what he did, but Irons was working him over for more than 20 years and he was working on very misleading information.
