Wait, didn’t Julie come back to school from the barbecue? The barbecue that was on a Saturday? Why did it take 2 days between then and when they finally fixed Tyler?
The only indication I see of it maybe not being Saturday still is the Marlockes. I think expecting Toby’s parents to know what day of the week it is is asking too much of them. Their job happens whenever. Even people who aren’t disconnected from reality who have jobs like that have a difficult time telling what day of the week it is without having some reason to pay attention to it.
For that matter, my job is mostly a Monday through Friday job, but I’ve had months where I’ve needed to work 7 days a week for most of the weeks of the month. I don’t have kids, so web comics are about the only thing I have to keep track of what day of the week it is, and sometimes those periods also have too much work for me to keep up with web comics. Before 10 days of working every day and not checking comics, I generally either have no idea what day of the week it is, or my idea of the day of the week is wrong.
It’s also that they expect to be notified of Tyler’s absence whenever Tyler leaves the school for an approved outing, even if it’s on the weekend. I’m not sure why they’d expect that, but there’s a great deal of how they think that baffles me. I have known college students whose parents expected to be notified when their “kids” left campus, which is I think even more ridiculous. PS238 is, at least, a primary education facility with some space to act as a boarding school for students that need it. The boarding schools some helicopter parents I’ve worked with discussed at the lunch table *did* tend to offer that level of notification, though a couple only offered it on demand. But somehow I doubt most of them would notify the parents of their children going to a party with both of their parents.
It’s possible the additional events were enough to take us into Sunday – “Tyler”‘s gotten a medical visit and new clothes, if I recall correctly. But the fact that “Tyler” would have been with his parents that whole time means that the school probably wouldn’t have bothered notifying them of the continued absence.
Oh the sad irony in Starbeam’s statement.
