Really. It did strike you as strange that your parents suddenly talked like a voice recorded machine/puppet? I mean sure jimmy from jimmy neutron didn’t notice the “I’ve gone” message at first, but even he double checked it when he saw that it happened to everyone else with him!
Tell me more about these legal ways to make money. Maybe you could direct me to some literature on the matter. The only ways of making money I know about are to Work and Invest. Being the cleaver coyote that you are, surely you can tell me of other ways to build capitol quickly. Some people and companies don’t pay for ideas as of late so creating wealth in that way has been stopped unless you are among the elite.
I think KC was referring to ways a super-powered individual could make money. E.G. people with electrical powers could get jobs with the electric companies working as generators, especially if there are as many people with powers as the PS238 universe has. Alternatively, a superstrong person could work for a demolition company, saving them the cost of a complete crew. Of course, this would result in non-powered people complaining about the loss of jobs for “normal” people. Which would then get into politics, and I am SO not touching that topic.
He explicitly said “with superpowers”.
There is lots of private work that could be done using super powers. As long as powers are rare and yours is useful you can get rich working a day a month.
However, most super powers, like magic, can be replicated by anyone with the right tools or technology. And, before anyone says anything about Booster Gold to the best of my knowledge there are only three possibly four ways of making money in general if you consider gambling a legitimate form of enterprise. Labor, inheritance, investment, gambling, and theft, not thrift are the only ways of earning an income that are portrayed in media. Barter and invention/creation are services and fall into the aforementioned categories through social agreements and negotiation.
Huh, Slimecat? You are projecting. Superhumans, specially ones with superpowers that are a form of energy will be able to use them to work in enterprises by saving money to them. Blob already made some good examples but just to elaborate a man with laser powers could work as a laser welding asset or even make surgeries depending how precise he could be. Someone with super-speed could work as a messenger.
Technology cannot replicate super powers, this is why they are super and not “lame-o powers”
Some inventors in super heroes settings use tech which they refuse to share to make themselves super powered (or aliens do) but for some reason (that being narrative reasons) it never becomes available to the general public.
@mrtt
I respectfully disagree with your first statement. It is my belief that the right knowledge and tools could replicate almost every super power in Sci-Fi’s Alpha series. While i find that particular show “underwhelming” because of this fact, the powers held by the alphas are not “Lame-O” to the under 13 crowd… maybe even the under 18 crowd.
I agree, knowledge of the latest technology is witheld form the general public. It is my understanding that the air force and ivy/engineering league colleges get first dibs while community and state colleges pay half a million dollars to get sloppy seconds.
Then again we have people __IN COLLEGE__ who still think flying cars don’t exist despite the fact one held a land speed record in the guinness book of records… as if that’s proof that it isn’t a flying car.
Heck, Ron could make a decent living repairing communication and weather satellites. Just because single use rockets can do stuff too, doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be cheaper to hire a rocket-free flier.
The savings would be immense. The cost to send each pound of material to orbit is huge. If its a repair thing, the repair parts, tools, people, thier life support, space suits, living space, air locks etc add exponential costs. Robots are cheaper to fly since they don’t need those heavy support systems but require that each be specially built for each task which again ramps up the cost.
A super person who could:
Transport any size cargo to orbit for no greater cost than a large meal and their service fee would be a huge asset. Multiple trips would make up for any weight limitation. Add to that the flexibility of not having to worry about tethers or ships docking / crashing. (Kerbal KSP players will know about this) A lack of space gloves and bulky suits makes repairs easier. The biggest benefit would be the “redo”. If you can go to orbit any time you want then you dont have to make everything happen once, the first time. Forgot a part… ok hold on NASA I’ll be right back!.
Huge Savings.
Pay close attention and get a clue, Ron!

As for bullhorn… He’s on the right track.
Supervillians never get it. There are so many ways to get rich legaly being a person with super powers. A lot of superheroes don’t either 🙂

C.f. the chapter with the Crystal Skull.

You forgot “Inherit”. Oh, and “Rob”. Damn, that’s not legal. Unless you’re a bank. Oh, for them, “Laundering Drugmoney” is an old chestnut.
Well, depending on how much control he’s got, Bullhorn could make a FORTUNE as an announcer at sports events…
This is, perhaps, not the most apt time to become disillusioned regarding your handlers.

As for super hero power sources this is an interesting one. http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?381953-Using-Superman-as-an-energy-source&s=be16b5792ef401003c9f640bc87fa020
Don’t forget about not cluttering up near-Earth orbit with bits of junk.
Well, I’d love if they could hire an honorable type like Ron TO clean up dead junk in orbit. It’s a safety hazard.
I feel sorry for Frostbite. She’d probably like a mixed school like pS238, where she can do normal high school stuff too, between emergencies.
