Antigrav generators, repulsorlift fields, even high power, miniaturized electromagnetic levitators. Lots of options to mimic flight without big bulky combustion or pressure engines.
Granted, a tight body suit like that wouldn’t have much room for any energy sources, so unless it’s something incredibly advanced (like Dr Doom levels of alien magic-technology advanced, or Booster Gold time travelling advanced) it likely wouldn’t function for more than short bursts.. but probably enough to get him up through the FISS entry porthole, as a casual show of ability.
But that begs the question of why the Revenant doesn’t use such gadgets and tech and whatnot more regularly/in his more daily operations.
Besides, if Aaron says he’s introducing a totally new character, we may as well give that more weight at this point.
Pietro
It’s more fun that way.
VinnyHavoc
Also impractical. SHort bursts are useless. Awesome but impractical.
Anubis
Revenant would need his gear for fights to be anti fragile. Everything you listed would be hard to make rugged, no need to get electrocuted because your suit got rained on.
Paddy
He does talk quite a lot like the Revenant, though. Perhaps he’s a previous trainee?
NStormRider
Actually, it wouldn’t be at all hard for Revenant to hook up a speaker to a regular FISS who wasn’t really interested in doing the talking…
It looks like a tight body suit, but if the wearer is a good bit slimmer/less muscled than it looks, they could fit some small gadgets in among the padding.
Or Revenant called in a favor and has a telekinetic outside lifting him. Or Hershel rigged up a tractor beam in the ceiling.
Personally, I think ‘Zero’, with his aversion to personal attention and very egalitarian proposal is actually Mister Extraordinary. The time-travelling kid probably skipped him forward in time for a few years so he could do some good in ‘the future’ before returning him to when he is supposed to be. For someone who had to abandon his family because of government pressure, I think he’d be glad to see people in power held accountable, while also helping an abused minority get equal standing with their peers.
I’ve been noticing for awhile, but isn’t there a beam of light on him terminating just above his shoulder. Cecil now has access to advanced alien technology.
Having a union established to combat the lack of respect given FISSes being created and lead by a non-FISS faking FISSness would defeat the whole purpose of the thing in a Very Big Way.
Did anyone else notice that Super-Idiot aka New Atlas wasn’t around the last few pages? After all the biggest and most obvious Zero I can think of would be him, plus he would be easily manipulated by Rev and Julia until a more suitable leader could be found.
Does anybody else feel like we just missed a comic between this and the last? Zero’s opening line here feels like a response to something that doesn’t seem to be in the last one, to me.
Also, I’m still not sold on Zero being somebody we’ve never met nor heard of before. That feels too much like Jimmy having the brilliant idea for Superman to use the anti-kryptonite nasal spray he always keeps in a pocket in his “S” – totally out of nowhere and only “brilliant” because it lets the author make up something with no real build-up. So I still think there’s some tie-back to stuff we’ve already seen but likely haven’t yet put together in this, somewhere.
I just got an idea, which (if I am not mistaken) would meet all conditions (“real F.I.S.S.”, “is somehow involved”, “new character”, “body type” and “personality”). While I think it is save to assume that founding/backup is provided by the Revenant and/or Hershel Clay, Zero himself while not being Mr. Extraordinary himself might be his descendant.
Guys, I think shoehorning Revenant in doesn’t fit his announced backpedaling Tyler/Revenant for a while. We’re all rooting for the unpowered heroes, but the theories for expanding Revenant’s role are sounding tortured. I hope it’s related to Mr Extraordinary so we learn he has a happier ending than last we heard. He deserved it. While the more typical teams/leaders did not show well in the egg, there has to be more good ones than the teachers and Revenant.
Come to think of it, why would there even be an exit hatch in a classroom ceiling? I’m pretty sure we’ve seen that even the flight-enabled students have to use the more standard exits and entrances.
Hm, answering my own question, maybe the classroom is adjacent to/under the launch area for the school’s space transport, and was chosen for its convenience for the flight-enabled.
If you still want it to be the Revenant, the option is open. While everybody is distracted with the shiney new building, grab a line that Tyler’s helpful hand drops through the skylight and get out.
That said, I still think it’s Mr. A brought forward in time, in close cooperation and with backing from the Revenant.
I’m going with Me. Extraordinary, backed by the Revenant’s resources. Looking back, he very carefully talks around his place relative to Mr. Extraordinary.
Agreed. Remember, the kid that time-travels has basically been dating Mister Extraordinary’s daughter. So he may not even be the elderly Mister E. Maybe he’s decided to skip the Vietnam years and is vacationing as Zero in the ‘future’. If your son-in-law offered you a great job helping people, would you take it?

So… the Revenant probably would have trouble hiding a jetpack in that bodysuit.
Tarvin
Flight belt perhaps?
enderlord99
You’re right… guess it’s not him after all.

I still call android controlled by the Revenant

Yes, yes, he would.

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a rigged demo.”
— Andy Finkel
I suspect we’ll be finding out Zero’s true identity in an upcoming page. I’m still betting on the Revenant.
Naldru
I see at least three James Klass and just one Andy Finkel for the discussion of a rigged demo.
With Respect
Notice everyone’s attention was diverted by his distraction until most of “Zero” was through the portal in the carefully pre-arranged location?
He could’ve used a wire swing line and no one would have been the wiser.
After all, it’s F.I.S.S., not 360-degree-X-Ray-Vision.
dana
Ha, who wants to bet that the Revenant’s jet is parked just above the portal with Tyler at the controls.
And why is the Captcha timeout so short?
Mouser
He never touched anything. Hologram?
Eric Johnson
Am I the only one that looks at his emblem, and read “Oz” instead of zero?
Ed Rhodes
Pay no attention to that man behind the mask!

that is just the ceiling that is very thick

May it please the court,

… but having a certain agent pilot a cloaked ship with a tractor beam just above the hatch is another matter. ;D
enderlord99
Apparently the captcha sometimes uses Roman numerals.

I just wish the timer lasted longer than about 15 seconds. Copypasta to make a post gets old quick.

Sewicked
Unless New Atlas has some voice modification, I think they’d recognize his voice. I have a feeling it’s….distinctive.
Mechwarrior
Not to mention his inability to stand up for himself. The first time someone questioned him (like two pages back), he’d fall to pieces.
jjmcgaffey
Also, while he’s taller than Julie, I don’t think he’s up to adult height let alone build. And that suit wouldn’t hide anything.
Segev

DMRGrimes
I think he was wanting the group to get through his vote before showing them the building. Less like he bought the vote that way.
uaeoaeoeoi
So basically you think he’s calling in nameless background character #3 as Zero.
Ostsan
What is this? A superhero headquarters for ants? It needs to be at least three times as big.

I’d just like to revisit my drone+hologram idea.
At no point does Zero hold anything or touch anything. Julie handles giving out the certificates, and rolls in and unveils the building model.
Maybe there’ll be an unmasking in the next few pages; or at least Zero will do something that demonstrates that he has a physical presence.
But right now, I still have this little suspicion that something is off. . .

Man, that’s a ridiculously short captcha.
CountryMage
I say Cecil, in the hatch, with a cloaking device; he does have experience using his winged coat to pull Revenant out of trouble…
Ed Rhodes
I don’t think the coat could handle that again. It really didn’t seem happy after the last time.
LanceVader
Guys. It’s Forak. This is a great role for him.
