Rick, Dana-San, don’t be silly! What you SHOULD be worried about, is the fact that it’s now 10:13 Friday night, and there is STILL no update! SOMETHING MUST BE HORRIBLY WRONG!!!!!!!
I think since 9-11 we haven’t gone below DefCon 4. However, I believe that the “colored light blockes” we saw in WarGames were just movie props. Not sure where the “Big Color Wheel of Screwed” might be located, or if its just some technicolored cheese wedge on the front of an Interociter with incorperated national defense status indicator, in some lab somewhere.
I thought the updates were automatic? They should be. Aaron has been updating his content on a regular basis. But that’s only half the reason I come here.
I may as well get all my comments in here:
I deleted the link to this site about two years back when the PS:238 storylines began to suffer from excessive ‘Seinfeld-itis’ (seriously, how many deadpan responses can you give before it stops being funny?) and the Nodwick storylines began to linger in Bad Pun territory.
I know, the Nodwick stuff has been in the can for years, but it’s new to me.
I checked in about four months back and the stories had changed (a bit) and the characters had begun to act a *little* more like real people. So I stuck around. Timely updates to the strips do not *appear* to be a high priority, however. Sometimes they are there. Sometimes not.
Meanwhile, I have not seen a single child in PS:238 act like anything but a miniature adult; however, that appears to be the premise of the strip.
I am hoping Aaron’s PS:238 kids begin to act a bit more like *real kids* as his own son approaches their age. His boy is always going to be a little precocious – smart Dad, etc – but never like the ones in the strip.
Meanwhile Aaron is one of the busiest guys I’ve seen in the industry (Kris Straub is another) and I wish him a good New Year.
…I have no idea what you’re seeing, given as one of the things I like the most about this comic is that the kids actually act like KIDS rather than minature adults. They play, they don’t know what complicated words mean, they mess with stuff out of idle curiosity, they unravel weird threads they find in alien VR programs because they can’t figure out how else to interact with anything, they’re kids. The fact that they’re trying to act like superheroes gives them a slightly better moral guideline than some other children might have, but they’re still kids, and they behave like it.
Most people hold the “Fatty Arbuckle” belief that entertainment should be made for 12 year olds. Whereas others hold the “Buster Keaton” belief that if you market exclusively to twelve year olds you won’t last very long. And, while I can understand the need for periodicals to be written at the level of a ten year old, (sans jargon and logical fallacies to direct one’s contempt) it doesn’t help that there are people who believe children are inferior to adults in some way. Granted, physically, mentally, and based on the subjective arguments of qualia (experience) not withstanding, children are not as sophisticated as adults. That doesn’t mean that they don’t have or hold the same values, philosophies, physical and psychological reactions to stimuli.
Children are human beings, not dogs, the fact that they can be more easily influenced, or psychologically manipulated, makes them a liability not an inferior life form. Clearly, they are not effective social engineers and negotiators. Still, I also believe that children have a level of concrete thinking that makes them more dangerous than most adults. There is no grey area, abstract thought, not testing the limits of problem solving or imagination, is what separates adults from children.
Centurion, you must’ve hated Ender’s Game then. Kids act as…well, themselves. Saying that there is a standard for being a child, especially at elementary school age, is rather ridiculous. Some act older, some act younger, and frankly, we’re the first time period and culture not to treat our children like young adults.
That said, I know that the updates will pick up, I’m more worried about the back log getting updated when it does…. 🙁
I know kids who act like Alexandra at her age. I don’t remember more than a few fragments of my childhood, but my understanding is that (when I wasn’t throwing fits about unimportant things and unintelligent people) I was fairly similar to Ender in the academy. Some stories portray kids as small adults, but that’s a matter of their context, not their qualities. Kids, like adults, vary.
… annnd *that’s* why I refrain from commenting here. On the one hand, not seeing what I refer to – okay, it’s probably me but it’s still a problem for me.
And on the other hand, a spirited defense of the children of the world, made by dividing everyone in that world into two camps and then establishing that the dears are just as equal as the rest of us. Fine, but that’s not what I had a problem with. You’re defending something that was never under attack. And if you thought it was, I would rather you just ignored me, actually.
Much ado about nothing, really. And I don’t want to get into a touchy- feely flame war here.
See paragraph six in rant one for clarification. Wanderer made issue with the fist statement of the second to last paragraph in your comment. After alternating between complaint and back handed compliment, a less than a reactionary response was inevitable.
I was expressing my understanding of both sides of the argument citing famous dead people in order to lend credibility to what I lack in proof of concept to bolster my argument before dropping my two cents on the table.
I’m sorry you felt victimized, I sincerely wish I could clearly express my deepest apologies. Unfortunately, I was raised by the devil durring my formative years, and as a result my prose and speech patterns may be corrupted by spiteful avarice and contempt. And, while I accept your concern for the future well being of the missing creator, I can assure you that you were not ignored…
Yes, despite your humility I feel everyone should notice you. After all, you are a cloud of sunshine on an otherwise shady day…Snap! that came out wrong. Can I have a do over?
Oh Wait, I don’t need someone to validate me. Neither does anyone else for that matter. Whatever was I thinking. Not to mention, being the low man on the totem pole really puts things into perspective no matter how much you feel horsepucky don’t stink. No doubt you can assure your place in line with the right friends at the head of the pack.
I have one of the biggest vocabularies In my hole school, and I did not understand any of that. Were you apoliziseing, or making a witty comeback?
I usually enjoy reading your comments, slimecat, but that just sounded like you were trying to show off.
Or was the whole thing soposed to be ironic… If so, sorry to intrude.
Honestly, I was being silly for the sake of argument.
Now, If I really wanted to go on a rant and act like a meanie I could point out the use of hole in place of whole punishable by the paddling of the swollen backside.
In fact, I know the meaning of several odd words like affluence, enui, and as of last year “hubris.” Despite the fact that knowing them has no correlation to a college education. For instance, If I had come across the word while reading article in any of the scientific journals I read within the last five years, I would have bothered to learn the meaning of it and filed it away for future use, if not I could always crack open a book or look it up online with a cell phone or my psp.
Evidently, the ability to text message is a requirement for employment these days, although I can’t fathom why. I’ve had extensive training in reading 1337 over the past 12 years, I don’t need a modern cell phone to do that or send emails. I’ve already purchased 2 tablets over the last five years I cant see them as being much different.
Clearly, not all human resources professionals are actual professionals when it comes to evaluating technical skill.
Whole. My apologizes, oh ye with a vocabulary, much larger than mine. I am usually much more careful, when commenting on web comics. The sad thing is, I’m not being sarcastic.
This is a geek site. If you do not want to hear other people’s opinions, wether or not they agree with you and why, do not put YOURS on the Internet. I disagree with several of the points you made in both of your comments, including the use of the term ” touchy-feely “. Nothing about what slimecat said was ” touchy-feely” as you would say. Also, this is not you tube. I think we all expect a little more respect when you respond to our comments.
Again, if you want us to ignore you, do not put your opinions on the Internet.
P.S. Wanderer, I agree.
A simple hello would have sufficed you know!
Hummm… It’s 11 AM on the 28th and there’s no Friday strip. Hope nothings wrong….
Me too!
Rick, Dana-San, don’t be silly! What you SHOULD be worried about, is the fact that it’s now 10:13 Friday night, and there is STILL no update! SOMETHING MUST BE HORRIBLY WRONG!!!!!!!
Speaking in alien tongues bodes not well….
How about the fact that it is now MONDAY and the Friday update still hasn’t gone up? Are we allowed to be concerned now?
DefCon 3 is now authorized Scramble the fighters
Prepare Nuclear Countermeasures
What defcon were we at previously?
I think since 9-11 we haven’t gone below DefCon 4. However, I believe that the “colored light blockes” we saw in WarGames were just movie props.
