Typically, people in Forak’s position eventually do learn to have a bit of a spine, if only because there are so few others kowtowing to whatever a “boss” says in so servile a way. “Forak’s position” being “a guy from a totalitarian culture come to the Western World in fiction.”
It is possible he won’t; they’re getting mileage right now out of his easily-oppressed nature. But if it came down to actually playing it straight and working for Alexandra, I don’t think it would be striking the tone that seems to otherwise be in place. So I don’t see it quite working out that way.
I think the problem will arise when he’s given simultaneous yet conflicting orders from two different individuals with superior rank. Right now Zodon’s threat is an override to stop anyone from shutting off the portal but with a bit of logic loopholing, ‘if Zodon is destroyed he can’t carry out the threat, where as I’m right here right now’. Who wins?
How does Forak know that Zodon didn’t program a virus to invade his XBox 360 and Playstation 3, wirelessly transmitted in an instant, all while Zodon was whispering in Forak’s ear? And that unless Zodon returns safely, Forak’s achievements are going bye bye? Forak is an “engineer” in the sense that he used to keep an eye on very sophisticated robots. He probably knows very little about programming; even if he did know how to program an Argosian computer, what makes you think he knows anything about Earth computers?
Besides, all this is predicated on Forak thinking for himself. 😀
When Forak finally processes the notion that he is potentially one of the more powerful creatures on this planet and years of frustration at being repressed break through…
Forak is not one of the most powerful beings on Earth. Julie, Malphast, Ultima and Sovereign Powers, the Solar Crusader, and Brian are all more powerful than Forak.
In any event, once Forak and Brian strike up their friendship, Forak will discover a lot of people on Earth just like him. And they have a Facebook group. 🙂
(You guys probably don’t remember Brian. He was at PS238’s Career Day.)
You’re overlooking something… Atlas (Ul-ron) is a member of the highest rank (by power) on Argos, Atlas (Forak) is MUCH lower on the scale. Frankly, 84 could probably take him in a fight; not that that’ll happen — Forak would surrender instantly!
I don’t really understand why they’re INSISTING on Forak being a super hero. He just doesn’t have the temperment, nor will he gain it through learning, he’s too old. Seriously, how old is he, at least like six to nine years older then the main cast, other then being from another planet, he’s JUST a low level FISS, they could probably just put him up at a job somewhere else, or in construction or something.
Because he’s Atlas’s replacement, and Atlas is the word’s biggest superhero. It doesn’t matter if this guy is horrible – he’s supposed to be filling in for Atlas.
They need an Atlas to carry the banner for Government/Metahuman cooperation. And really, what else are you going to do with Forak, besides stuff him into the SIITS 9000?
He has practical knowledge of Argonian technology. Not just a capsule to carry an infant. He knows the robots, the ships. And is a veritable yes man. You put him to work with the defense department unraveling some of what they had already. Give him a consultant’s paycheck and he gets to play video games on his time off.
His limited invulnerability and strength just means he can carry his own groceries easier and muggers are not real threats.
Throwing out a weaker Atlas seems like such a bad idea. Not because of his attitude. But because he can’t do what Atlas can. They made Argonite just to have some form of weapon against an argonian invasion. They would also want to unravel the tech too.
The interaction between Alex and Forak is one of the many highlights of volume nine. The inherent discrepancy between her utter disdain for anyone she deems inferior, and Forak’s slacker attitude combine for comedy gold! Plus he’s helpful as an exposition target to explain why Alex has come to Clay Industries and what she hopes to find there, since Forak has no idea what is going on. 🙂
In regards to Victor leaping into the portal, his ego won’t let him just destroy the portal. Victor has to know why Zodon is protecting another dimension, even if it means risking his own life!
Zodon’s hold (and everyone else’s who is under the drinking age) will evaporate about five seconds after Forak grows up. As this is a strip dominated by adults in children’s bodies, that probably won’t be anytime soon.
Match made in heaven?
Dude, seriously! He’s at least thirteen years older than her! Besides, I’ve already shipped Alex with Kevin (aka the Emerald Gauntlet).
I meant in that Patsy has met his King Arthur. Not in the creepy sense.

He he Just wait till she gives an order that has two meanings. And he carries out the second meaning resulting in discomfort to her ladyship.
When Forak finally processes the notion that he is potentially one of the more powerful creatures on this planet and years of frustration at being repressed break through…
… it’s not going to be pretty, is it?
probably not.
But, I could be wrong?!?!?
I want the popcorn concession when that happens.

That is a given since she was already noted as having Royal level powers, particularly strength at age 8.
I thought she had been noted to LOOK like a royal, not have royal level powers.

The feds don’t want a consultant, they want a new Atlas. The fact that Forak’s easier to push around, and doesn’t have the morality of, the old Atlas.

He’s certainly conditioned to the lackey role, isn’t he?
