Let’s see what happens when the Chaos Coat is “hit” by the Lance of Considerable Injury. I predict the occupant gets launched, but is otherwise uninjured as he flies around the store.
And once someone is thrown around, both Cecil and Power are going to quickly learn a few things. About brandishing torches in a firework factory and why de-escalation is a valuable skill in both of their lines of work.
I’m not sure if anyone has suggested this yet – perhaps Tyler could give the potion to Ron to make up for him losing his powers (not knowing Ron has already gotten some more).
Power and Glory seem used to knowing everything and everything going to plan. I hope this is a legitimate wrench in said plan; I can’t stand when smug characters get validated.
Unless their manager is Remmington Steel?
It’s a well-known tactic to to the “I just work here lady” routine, if a customer wants something they can’t have.
You literally would not believe the amount of injury it causes, so I’m not going to try. I mean, there’s also the fact that I don’t believe it myself, but I understand that’s kind of the definition of the injury it causes.
Update: I’ve just been told that I was mistaken. The definition isn’t that you wouldn’t believe the amount of injury it causes when you see it. If you see it, you might believe it – it’s not certain, any more than it is that you believe what you see regarding anything else. It’s just that you wouldn’t believe it when somebody told you about it. I haven’t seen it fired myself, which is why I don’t believe what I was told about the level of damage.
The Lance of Ridiculous Injury probably only targets the groin region.. or just deals “slapstick” levels of injury.
The classics: a slap to the face, eye-poking, backhand, gut-shots, nose-twisting, hair pulling. And emits “whoop-whoop-whoop” and “nyuk” sounds seemingly at random.
This is along the lines of Inflict Light Wounds, Inflict Minor Wounds, Inflict Moderate Wounds, Inflict Serious Wounds, Inflict Critical Wounds. I guess the next in the progression would be Raise Dead. Hmm, Power and Glory put that around here somewhere.
Unrelated to the current story, the latest Marvel Rising animated movie features a pair of supervillains who alternately ignore their daughter or treat her like dirt because she doesn’t have powers. It seemed a little … familiar.
Yo, Power. Contemplate the age of the people you’re about to shoot, contemplate *what town you’re operating in*, and PUT THE F*CKING GUN DOWN before you get this universe’s version of Batman AND Superman declaring kanly.
And what if the intruder alert was actually triggered by somebody else, who hasn’t yet been seen by anybody there, instead?
Cue the youngsters teaming-up with P&G’s staff to save the day…
I don’t think so, but it is possible. There are two unaccounted persons in the shop, and one of them has asked the way to a place of solitude. He can empty his bladder and open a portal (first one, then the other).
Let’s not forget Code 300 is an intruder alert, which could simply mean someone is not where they are supposed to be. While it’s a cool idea, it’s not necessary to introduce new characters to satisfy that definition.
Yup, if it was the junior x-files crew that caused the code 300 we would have heard it going off before this. And we know code 300 doesn’t go off just because there’s an unauthorized person on the premises – it didn’t go off when charles the teleporting bully popped in. It must signal a more serious intrusion, like let’s say into a restricted zone with the really dangerous items.
“… who hasn’t yet been seen by anyone there, instead?”
Including us audience/readers… O_O
Steven Merrick/Riptide and/or Paula Grissom/Skybolt. We haven’t seen them since the support group scene near the start. And there were hints they’d like their powers back.
Why bother to introduce and somewhat flesh out two characters without using then again?
Eh, the coat has been winning a lot recently, for narrative purposes it’s probably time for it to take a loss in order to put somebody else over – probably lester when he comes back with the manacle of nyrathos on his wrist. With its control over magic it can probably control the coat.
Everyone seems to think Power is being unreasonably threatening, here, but look at it from P&G’s perspectives: An intruder alert went off, and suddenly there are superpowered kids present they didn’t invite in their extremely exclusive store. The most likely motivations for such an intrusion, from their perspective, involve theft or similar mayhem. They’re not going to let these intruders calmly explain why they’re here until they establish they have the upper hand.
Meanwhile, these intruders immediately started trying to boss them around in their own store, leveling implied threats of use of force.
From Power’s perspective, he’s a shop-owner who pulled a shotgun out from under his counter when some hoodlums burst in from the back room and started threatening to forcibly take his customers out of his store and potentially use violence of their own.
I think that one dialogue balloon needs to point to Ron, not Glory. I know there are a lot of open mouths to “feed”.
“We want to leave with Tyler, remember?”
Good catch. Thank you. I was worried P&G were going to kidnap Tyler and that they actually have sinister plans for him.
Ah yes, that definitely makes more sense.
Oh! Good call. I misread that as the girl saying she wanted them to leave with Tyler, but then of course she wouldnmt have added “remember?”
Do they have a Couch of Reasonable Comfort somewhere?
Looks more like the “Sex Toy of Amazing Durability.”
I’ve been looking for a Spatula of Amazing Flippancy

This looks like a new toy for Cecil to add to his formidable collection.
And once someone is thrown around, both Cecil and Power are going to quickly learn a few things. About brandishing torches in a firework factory and why de-escalation is a valuable skill in both of their lines of work.
Point of note: Tyler has not drunk the potion. Who wants to bet he doesn’t?
This event might result in him needing to drink it or in the bottle being broken. Either way chechov’s gun will be used.
I’m not sure if anyone has suggested this yet – perhaps Tyler could give the potion to Ron to make up for him losing his powers (not knowing Ron has already gotten some more).

The one who knows what’s up may be their mysterious manager.

Unless their manager is Remmington Steel?
It’s a well-known tactic to to the “I just work here lady” routine, if a customer wants something they can’t have.
Now I wonder if there’s also a “Lance of Moderate Injury” and a “Lance of Ridiculous Injury” somewhere in there.
Also a Lance of Incredible Injury.
You literally would not believe the amount of injury it causes, so I’m not going to try. I mean, there’s also the fact that I don’t believe it myself, but I understand that’s kind of the definition of the injury it causes.

I’m guessing this is an anti-litigation feature.
Ah… Ed, there’s some Lawyers out here, they say they represent the Lance of Unbelievable Injury….
And “Considerable Injury”? Clearly meant to get them to think twice about they’re doing in light of the injury they recieve.
Lance of Insignificant Injury. Inflicts papercuts.
The Lance of Ridiculous Injury probably only targets the groin region.. or just deals “slapstick” levels of injury.

It does, doesn’t it?
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen similar stories and villains before in marvel.
Yo, Power. Contemplate the age of the people you’re about to shoot, contemplate *what town you’re operating in*, and PUT THE F*CKING GUN DOWN before you get this universe’s version of Batman AND Superman declaring kanly.
Depends on what exactly it does.
Then again, it’s not the Lance of Embarrassing Injury.
Who’s to say? He could have mistranslated. Might just be the Lance of Acceptable Comfort. Seems like he’s tried it out before, though.
I am fairly certain that ersatz-Batman is likely to declare Kanly either way. And Ul-Ron would probably do the same if he knew what was going on.
On the other hand, the store seems to have decent shielding going on, so they might be rather overconfident in their ability to act with impunity.
Honestly, I’m not sure what age THEY are, since they seem about the same height as our preteen protagonists.
Well, Batman and Spider-Man/Ambush Bug. Ron’s not a Superman expy anymore. PS238’s premier flying brick is now 84.
I was guessing Tyler’s gonna talk them all out of having a brawl, but Simreeve below posts an interesting possibility…
Ron’s dad is still a superman expy. He just happens to be off world fighting injustice on a global scale.
And what if the intruder alert was actually triggered by somebody else, who hasn’t yet been seen by anybody there, instead?

I like this. It’s just a good twist/surprise while everyone’s thinking “Fight, fight, fight”.
I don’t think so, but it is possible. There are two unaccounted persons in the shop, and one of them has asked the way to a place of solitude. He can empty his bladder and open a portal (first one, then the other).

Personally I think that P&G is underestimating that coat. Do not mess with the coat.
Eh, the coat has been winning a lot recently, for narrative purposes it’s probably time for it to take a loss in order to put somebody else over – probably lester when he comes back with the manacle of nyrathos on his wrist. With its control over magic it can probably control the coat.
Actually I hear ‘Lance of Considerable Injury’ and I think Tyler is about to be hit.
