My first thought was some kind of deal with The Consultant, the information broker Revenant sometimes uses. “Several supervillains’ worth of seized assets” sounds like a metric she would deal in.
That said, I’m not sure how that could play out. All I know is, waiting for Moonshadow to answer the question is gonna be AGONY.
The thing I love the most about Revenent is that whenever Tyler calls him up he’s in the middle of a fight and almost never seems perturbed by the distraction.
You seem to be forgetting the time he called the revenant and he was playing a video game. Well I guess he WAS playing ‘Superman the video game’, so it was a superhero fight after all.
That was City of Heroes, actually. The first superhero MMO, and as far as I’m concerned the only one that was worth playing.
It had a pretty good run before NCSoft unilaterally axed it literally weeks before a new expansion was scheduled to come out. Most of its fanbase is still heartbroken, and despite claims neither Champions Online or DC Universe Online comes even close to replacing it.
In the 4th panel, did the Revenant just out Tyler as being Moon Shadow to Julie/84? He IS on an open channel! Otherwise, Julie/84 might be wondering who Moon Shadow is saying “I didn’t quite think it through to the end”
I think the receiver is in Tyler ‘ helmet. Perhaps the idea was so ‘cool’ Tyler got another hug from Julie and that was the part he didn’t think through.
Ron seems the likely suggestion. He matches the “cool” of Moon Shadow in that he’s equally powerless, now. Being a F.I.S.S. without powers right now means he’s still technically a legitimate member of the “F.I.S.S.-only” club. But it’s not about being stuck-up if they’re helping out a member who isn’t exhibiting their power set right now.
On the other hand, it’d take a lot more than just “let Ron in” to make it…do anything, PR-wise. And PR is the issue for 84; she may not recognize it in those terms, but it’s what’s bugging her on nearly every level. I’m not sure that it specifically makes being a F.I.S.S. “not suck so much,” either, though perhaps that’s handled by the nature of the club to begin with.
The consultant could help with PR; given that we’ve not heard the Revanant use “supervillains’ gear” as a unit of measure or a reward structure before, she’s possible as the currency-taker. Or payer, though that seems less likely. Cecil is the other option along that line, but I’m not sure how he’d line up with the F.I.S.S.-only club, nor with helping them with the “not seeming stuck-up” thing.
I have a sneaking suspicion that, despite having just reread the whole thing over the last week, I’m forgetting somebody Tyler ran into earlier on.
I think the idea that a FISS is limited in abilitys is what needs addressing. Giving them more variety in what they can do will trump the non FISS supers if they can mimic some of their powers. Gadgets shouldn’t be only for the non powered.
This concept could bring supers opinions of non powered heroes more in line with their own. More rounded equality than just power types. More encompassing story arc ending.
Of course, if it is Ron, that brings up the possibility that this will be the event that triggers whatever his latent abilities are, since Cecil did say he still gives off the same powered vibe.
I don’t think Ron’s got “latent” powers of which we’re unaware. He’s still Argosian. His DNA haven’t changed. He’s effectively got argonite flowing through his veins, constantly weakening him to what, coincidentally, is a human (or “softling”) level of power. It kills his flight, dulls his toughness, reduces his strength, and impedes his speed. He’s still a F.I.S.S., just with powers so weak that they’re effectively non-existent. It makes sense he’d ping on Cecil’s super-dar, because he’s still what he was.
I expect that the development will be a cure for the argonite poisoning, restoring him to his full F.I.S.S. abilities. Eventually. If there are any complications from it, I expect them to be of the “rebound to stronger than before” variety more than anything else.
Though I wonder: is enhanced-PatriotAct stronger than a F.I.S.S., now? Is he stronger than Atlas? (Ul-Ron, not Forak)
This strip is just a tease. Revenant and 84 heard the idea, but not us. Obviously we ALL need to work on our telepathic merit badges until the it is revealed!
That’s just the Unspoken Plan Guarantee trope. If the plan is laid out on-screen, it will fail. If it’s kept off-screen and only shown in actions and flashbacks, it’s sure to succeed.
I dunno, the Bureau seems to be expanding into sort of a Baker Street Irregulars-slash-unofficial internship/workstudy program. I doubt the IV will become part of it but “Keep Cecil Busy” doesn’t seem to be its main focus anymore.
Moon Shadow has been seen around school enough that it’s not a revelation that he knows who a teacher is. I forget, is it general knowledge they worked together before?
The cover story for getting Tyler into quarantine during the alien invasion was that Moonshadow was “escorting a wounded Miss Kyle to safety”. And if memory serves (and it probably doesn’t), 84 was in the group that witnessed this. So that’s all plausible (anyway, he’s Moonshadow! Of COURSE he knows all about PS238 & Miss Kyle..)
That and he was in the “Go beat up Charles” group with all the other classmates. So Unless it’s pointed out to her how weird that is, she may not even stop to think that he wouldn’t know her.
I know the comic is all about kids growing up to be superheroes but I kind of want a paperback of what Revenant is doing off screen now. Every time he gets a call he seems to be knuckle deep in some sort of super powered brawl that looks like it’d be petty fun to read.
Let me guess… basically, he’s going to feed them targeting information.
Revenant has one pair of hands and one pair of legs, and loads of reports from contacts, hints and rumors that need his attention somewhere. He also has sidekicks/field agents (Tyler, Flea, Cecil), but they more add to the pile of “needs attention” than reduce it.
TIV needs something that would look good on their resume.
The perfect barter.
I doubt it’s Ron he’s talking about, I mean Ron’s many things but ‘cool’ isn’t one of them, at least not currently. Frankly I’d expect to find out he suggested the Flea to help make them the coolest thing around.
Give them all the cool they can handle? Sounds like the Revenant’s going to act as the PR guy for the infinite vanguard. My only question is whether he’s going to utilize one of his alternative identities (of which he is implied to have several), or just join the team as the Revenant, using his reputation to legitimize the infinite vanguard.
Lessee – who has that much cool to spare, and could give some to (or rub it off on) the Infinite Vanguard? Someone Moon Shadow would know about, but 84 wouldn’t (or at least wouldn’t think of that way)?
Flea she’s already been on a couple of adventures with, so I doubt it’s him. The Consultant doesn’t sound right either – she’s very knowledgeable, but “cool” doesn’t seem like the right word with her.
If I had to guess someone right now, I’d go with Angie. She’s certainly given Tyler more “cool” than he could handle at times; imagine what she could do with several supervillains’ lairs’ worth of stuff! And she’s not someone 84 would likely think of offhand, despite the fact that they go to the same school.
The Headmaster will probably come into play sooner or later since Ajax is his spy in the Infinite Vanguard, but I don’t think Tyler has linked him to the Praetorian Academy yet (since their only encounter so far was Moon Shadow accidentally destroying the Headmaster’s stealth ship during the soccer match).
However, as far as we know, the Headmaster still has Ron’s clarinet, which may be catalyst for a future confrontation.
I would be pretty funny for the Headmaster’s plans to fall apart around him due to something so minor.
I think Ron still has possession of the clarinet, he was just not allowed to carry it in Praetorian uniform until he earns the right, presumably by advancing a few years, education-wise. that kind of individualism was supposed to be earned.
Now that he’s out of that school and back in Excelsior, it seems reasonable that he should have it at home again.
My chips are all in for the mystery being Angie. She’s going to turn the Infinite Vanguard into a bunch of flying, indestructible Revenants. With chrome.
If we’re talking PR the people he knows most overburdened with the stuff would be Patriot Act and American Eagle… I can see them spinning helping The Vanguard as a patriotic activity. Also lets not forget Veles who would definitely qualify as someone involved in an idea you should talk to an adult first before using!
Checking to see if the Revenent has a spare base 84 and her fan club can use?
My first thought was some kind of deal with The Consultant, the information broker Revenant sometimes uses. “Several supervillains’ worth of seized assets” sounds like a metric she would deal in.
That said, I’m not sure how that could play out. All I know is, waiting for Moonshadow to answer the question is gonna be AGONY.
Maybe Revenant’s status of a “wanted vigilante” have something to do with it?
The thing I love the most about Revenent is that whenever Tyler calls him up he’s in the middle of a fight and almost never seems perturbed by the distraction.
No doubt a welcome break from the workaday drudgery of beating up yet another would-be Napoleon.
Fighting? That’s just muscle memory.
Problem solving, now that’s what really gets the gears turning!
You seem to be forgetting the time he called the revenant and he was playing a video game. Well I guess he WAS playing ‘Superman the video game’, so it was a superhero fight after all.
From what was going on the other times Tyler called during that story I am guessing that was one of those super-villain brand deathtrap games.
Toyman style super-villain, so arcade-game death trap.
I thought he was playing City of Heroes?

At the top of the box is “One short explanation later” I am guessing that means this takes place after Julie is dropped off.
I don’t think 84 is listening to the revenant. It look like the revenant can hear them both, but only Tyler can hear the Revenant.
I agree, he never actually addresses them directly.
I’m assuming Julie/84 probably hugged him again out of gratitude. Hence the “I didn’t think it through to the end.”
not cool, superbro code. you don’t out a fellow super bro
didnt think it through = another spine adjusting hug
I think the receiver is in Tyler ‘ helmet. Perhaps the idea was so ‘cool’ Tyler got another hug from Julie and that was the part he didn’t think through.
I like the fact that Tyler is starting to analyze his own actions.
I like that Tyler is aware of his own forthcoming plot complications.
I don’t think it’s a forthcoming plot complication. I think he just got hugged again.
A full-contact hug from 84 could be its own plot complication.
And quite possibly worth it, depending on how things develop after that. But whatever develops, it would definitely be a complication.
This appeals to me the most. It would fit the situation very well, if nothing else.
CJT – Kudos for nailing it perfectly.
Hand out a store of villains gadgets?
FISS with batman like upgrades?
I have sneaking hunch it may be Ron. Cecil would be too… excitable and be using all the toys at the drop of a hat.
Ron seems the likely suggestion. He matches the “cool” of Moon Shadow in that he’s equally powerless, now. And there’s another candy-date for the “Who the Heck is That!?” book we occasionally nag Aaron about.
This strip is just a tease. Revenant and 84 heard the idea, but not us. Obviously we ALL need to work on our telepathic merit badges until the it is revealed!

So, in effect, a striptease ?
What if the plan is to make the Infinite Vanguard part of the Bureau?
The ever-growing “Bureau of keeping Cecil busy”? Not likely.
I dunno, the Bureau seems to be expanding into sort of a Baker Street Irregulars-slash-unofficial internship/workstudy program. I doubt the IV will become part of it but “Keep Cecil Busy” doesn’t seem to be its main focus anymore.
“Wait. How do you know who Miss Kyle is, and why I’d be likely to listen to her?”
Moon Shadow has been seen around school enough that it’s not a revelation that he knows who a teacher is. I forget, is it general knowledge they worked together before?

But yeah, the Alien invasion thing synchs it.
I think it’s “sinks it,” but I’m not sure, as I can’t find it online. I always connected it with a basketball metaphor.
Anyone know for sure? I’m not nitpicking, just trying to learn.
who is Miss Kyle? have you not read PS238’s archives? She is one of the Teachers at the School. and a Former hero Mighty Might.
Disregard that my ba din not reading the comment from the right perspective.
I think you mean Micro-Might there, hoss.

And thus the Atlantean royal family was born!
How? Why? Is there some joke I’m missing here?
Sounds like Atlas (The original) is about to get a lot of backup . . .
NVM. Didn’t read that last panel as well as I should have.
Give them all the cool they can handle? Sounds like the Revenant’s going to act as the PR guy for the infinite vanguard. I’m thinking he is suggesting going after the Headmaster and reclaiming the PS238mk1 (Praetorian Academy).
