   I just realized, this is pretty much what happens to Whoopi Goldberg’s character when she stops being a fake and actually becomes able to contact ghosts.

   There was a short-lived show about a band who found an amulet that made them able to hear/speak to ghosts. And there had been no one to do so since the last owner of the amulet died, more than 100 years previous. When answering ghosts requests, they put in a firm ‘no letters to families if you’ve been dead more than 50 years’ policy.
