If you ever come back to read this page, The original print version of this issue includes rules and a fairly detailed description of the game. I’d never even heard of it before, so don’t let anyone tell you comics aren’t educational.
Basically it a game where you bounce the ball back and forth between the the squares with the person in the King square getting to set the bounce rules. when you fail to meat the bounce rule your out and lose you square and everyone below your square number moves up one. if you have more than 4 players you go to the end of the line and the person in the front of the line goes in square 1. if you have only 4 player getting out just knockes you down to square 1. The the curent king square hold can chance the bounce rules
Every playground has it’s own known and frequently played bounce rules which frequently get added to when somebody either introduces a new one they learned from their cousin or such or they just made it up. The basic form is pretty much four way free for all tennis with bare hands and a big ball: if it bounces in your square you get one chance to bounce it into another square. If it bounces twice in your square or goes out of bounds from your square, or if you knock it out of bounds, you’re out.
I never played four square in my youth and have no idea about how to do so.

It looks pretty fun, actually.

I remember a 4 square painted on the macadam but it wasn’t like this game or as complex. I just don’t remember. 🙁
Usually the field doesn’t teleport into an alternate reality either
