These aren’t Atlas’ quarters, it is the shrine to the First King. It was mentioned only a few pages ago by Aluna, who noted that the listening devices were removed by the Resistance.
Singularity my @$$! That has to be Piffany’s ascended God form or something influenced by her, with a response like that. Or at least has access to her recipe book.
I bet those weird crystals in the stay-here-for-an-hour-every-day chamber emit bountiful health-and-longevity radiation, which is why his power-hungry second-in-command wants him to stay there so badly.
I spotted those right off. But why would 2nd knowingly give him power if he wants to use A man as a Pawn? I’m curious if they gave the first king the FISS mutation and also curious how they’d respond to the cryptoKnight stand in.
Oh, the joys of leadership, sitting around and doing nothing.
Must suck for Atlas – as a hero, he’s probably accustomed to being active, but now he has to sit around, while surrounded by dodgy people with complex (and probably evil) motives, while his son may or may not be in danger, and on top of that he’s no longer one of the most powerful people on the planet, which would be worrying, as brawn is no longer the solution.
And now his son’s appeared, but I think the stress is just going to get worse from now on. Time to think of a cunning plan!
Baldrick, you wouldn’t know a cunning plan if it stripped naked, painted itself blue, and danced up and down upon a harpsichord singing ‘Cunning plans are here again!’
@Jerden: Atlas is still one of the most powerful beings on Argos; the Noble houses are ranked according to how powerful each bloodline is, with the house of Ron being the most powerful of all.
However you’re right that this situation doesn’t call for fisticuffs. It calls for a hero able to match wits with some of the most diabolical masterminds the Earth has ever known; in short, this looks like a job for Atlas!
and now it looks like Ron is going to get a chance to bond with his dad.. assuming that the parent’s divorce issue doesn’t rear its head and ruin the moment. and i wonder what Atlas will think of Ron joining the Praetorians..
Yup. People really don’t take advantage of the archives, do they? Maybe I should take a page from The Consultant’s book and charge exorbitant fees to point out plot points that were already addressed several issues ago?
Well, still powerful, but it must be a little disconcerting to go from almost unstoppable to knowing that your enemies would be perfectly capable of overpowering you just by outnumbering you. You know, “get a couple of guys to hold his arms while I punch him in the face and stomach until he does what we tell him to!” So yes, it’s time for him to show how smart he is, and do exactly what Moonshadow tells him to do.
What?! It’s the obvious course of action!
Invulnerability vs super strength basically allows them to manipulate him physically by holding him or throwing him but they can’t break his arms or give him much more than an owiee. So what does he care besides the boredom such beatings might eventually create. Kind of like superman cartoon reruns.
I always figured that the invulnerable could probably still be hurt by someone strong enough. After all, strangle him, wind him via fist to stomach, poke him in the eye hard enough… Even if it doesn’t cause actual damage, it could still be unpleasant.
But whatever, there’s always hold him still and threaten his now soft and squishy son. That’s always fun… Wait, I mean morally repellent and very mean.
F.IS.S.s’ are capable of feeling “pain”, it just takes a lot of force for them to experience it. Depending on how strong they are, being punched through a building may be something they could shrug off, or it could stun them for a second.
The real issue is that Ul-Ron is the heir to the throne, and it would look bad for Dax-Ra to try to use physical force in public to intimidate the new monarch. Better to secretly threaten his son (who no longer has F.I.S.S. level invulnerability) in order to get compliance.
The solution for Atlas is to act in ways that Dax-Ra does not expect; namely behave like a superhero with morals.
The archives are useless to me; they only go to the Rainmaker and the (I assume it exists) slide to get to later ones is off the edge of the screen with my system.
I think I see the problem – the “Archives” dropdown list only goes as far as the Rainmaker. To get to the rest of the archives, you have to continually click ‘next… next… next…’ until you catch up; it’s not nicely indexed like the pre-Rainmaker section.
If you have both mouse and keyboard, focus on the last chapter you can see in the dropdown and then use the down-arrow and you can get to later chapters
Just finished a 3 day burn through the archives. Now have to wait for my future self to finish his time machine to come back and get me so I can jump forward to see how this all ends.
Cue touching father-son reunion – that is, as long as Atlas doesn’t hug Ron like he’s still invulnerable. Hope Ron and Moon Shadow can get that through to him in time so “soft and squishy” doesn’t become too precisely and unpleasantly descriptive.
Out of their chambers and into yours.

It’s never a good sign when people refuse to answer your questions.
Especially when they’ve just said something as ludicrous as The Singularity’s warning. 🙂

well what do you expect. Same writer as Nodwick
I am betting it is the latter one, what with predicting quantum probabilities and all that.
Heck, it might even be a Power What Is.
Immediate problem solved. Let’s flea this iceberg and go home.
Flea this iceberg? Alejandro isn’t on an iceberg silly! He’s playing hooky and bugging Praetorian Academy (with real insects!).

“No fear captain! For I have a cunning plan…”
Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Ah, that’s where I remember it from!
Man, I heard a fair deal of these type replies, but this is marvelous.

Already discussed back in issue…40 was it?

I don’t use the archives either. I have something better–a research library. 🙂

Chocolate-chip cookies, huh? Well, if it’s Piffany’s special recipe, that would be worth ending a war over… or starting one.

Odd. What are you using? I’m using a touchscreen, and I’ve never had that problem with this site. Others yes, but not this one.
I have no difficulty navigating the archives. They begin in 2006, starting with issue “zero” of PS238.
You know your at the start when it looks like a handbook slash infomercial for PS238.
I think I see the problem – the “Archives” dropdown list only goes as far as the Rainmaker. To get to the rest of the archives, you have to continually click ‘next… next… next…’ until you catch up; it’s not nicely indexed like the pre-Rainmaker section.

are the updates stuck or what? I can’t go past the 6/24/13 one?
