More important is that the conclave is being called in a hurry. Lord Dax-Ra wants to keep Atlas off balance so he can manipulate the hero. While it seems likely Dax-Ra was planning this in advance, Atlas is a very trusting individual but he’s not a fool; if he’d been given more time (a few days, or even hours) he might guess what Dax-Ra is up to before the treacherous noble could begin to plot Atlas’ downfall. Dax-Ra plays the game of thrones to win; Atlas doesn’t know he’s a pawn.
Those aren’t spoilers. Lord Dax-Ra has specifically stated that he came to Earth to bring Atlas back home to Argos to take the throne. Dax has mentioned the succession crisis the war (against the Emerald Ones) and has hinted at why Atlas needed to be sent to Earth as an infant. The cut-throat nature of Argosian politics (and Dax-Ra’s general unpleasant demeanor to anyone but Atlas) are all heavy handed clues that he’s up to no good. Atlas has decided to give Dax-Ra the benefit of the doubt, because he’s Atlas. He’s the hero’s hero, the personification of Truth and Justice in the PS238 ‘verse. He’s not as powerful as Sovereign or Ultima, not as skilled as The Revenant, lacks the common sense of Ms. Kyle, but Atlas is the superhero other superheroes look up to. But Atlas has been thrown off his game after the revelation about the origins of Argonite, that the government lied to him about Argos’ destruction, that even with all the good he’s done for mankind he was seen as a potential threat. On top of that, he’s worried about his estranged son and is wondering about what his homeworld will be like. Dax-Ra is playing off of all that. Those are not spoilers. Spoilers would be to reveal just how Dax-Ra’s plan will unfold.
Kevin’s nervous system was damaged when Zodon’s space station removed the exodermis/gauntlet. Dr. Newby, Mental Nucleus and Lady Alexandria were trying to heal him when the Emerald Ones kidnapped the Gauntlets and Lady Alexandria. The Emerald Ones promised to heal Kevin and give him a power boost. That’s what they’re doing. Do they have nefarious motives for curing him? Yes, yes they do.
And now I shall laugh for being right. They are the “Brainic/enemy” of the superpowered fliers. I knew there had to be a connection since the modifcation of the orginal alien space ship that sent Argo to earth gave them their “power guantlet” user.
The Emerald Ones aren’t an expy of Brainiac, they’re an expy of the Guardians of the Universe who formed the Green Lantern Corps. (And given the way all the Guardians, save Ganthet and his girlfriend, are portrayed as creeps these days, its a very prescient take on them.)
Kevin’s dad did not get the Emerald One exodermis that became the Gauntlet from the modifications to the rocket. It came when the Emerald One, sensing an “Argosian” craft on Earth came to investigate. The Emerald One materialized in the rocket, causing it to crash and the senior Emerald Gauntlet to gain part of the alien exodermis.
There is a Brainiac expy in this storyline, but I can’t reveal anymore, or Ms. Kyle will give me a week’s detention.
The funny thing is that the “big reveal” was revealed already at the end of PS238 #41.
After the Emerald Gauntlets are led away to eat lunch, the leader of the Emerald Ones takes Lady Alexandria aside and reveals the following to her:
“Historical: My entry into your world and the loss of my exodermis was part of an effort to defeat an old enemy. They are a powerful people. You and your servants may hold the key to their defeat.”
After Lady Alexandria asks who this “enemy” is, the Emerald One responds: “Amusement: You likely have knowledge of at least one of their race… for one came to your planet long ago. He, like your elder servant, has reproduced.” Below the latter caption is an image of the Valiant Lance and Argonaut.
These pages were posted on-line on January 2 and 4, 2013. So its not really a spoiler that Argos and the Emerald Ones have been warring with each other for a long time. The Emerald Ones are betting that Kevin can help them win the war. I wonder who Lord Dax-Ra is going to choose as his champion?
A conclave? 84 is about to become Pope LXXXIV!
WHAT A TWIST!
No, Atlas is going to be crowned king. Same difference.

Ohhhh… and now it all comes together. I look forward to the (mutual?) reveal.
Oh, good grief. >_< He doesn't even blink at "Aliens have been reformatting my nervous system under the guidance of an evil little girl."
Reformatted nervous system? Oh dear.

You can have your spoilers back at the end of the cliffhanger !
… I don’t remember posting this.
