Ah, now here we have an interesting tangle of timing. This page is giving me flashbacks to the first Mistborn book, specifically a portion of the chapter where the protagonist is being trained in the basics of using her abilities. However, I first read this page (and, indeed, the entirety of what PS238 was uploaded at the time) multiple years before I first encountered the books in question. However, the first book was published some 20 months before this page went live.
(I doubt, for the record, that either scene inspired the other. They are, I daresay, drawing from strongly-overlapping sets of tropes, although off the top of my head I can’t think of many other similar examples.)
And the comic was originally printed in 2004. Sometimes the same idea occurs to multiple writers at the same time. When Tyler was first introduced, people were making “hey, it’s just like Sky High!” noises. Personally, I don’t think it’s that much like Sky High, aside from the “normal” child of relatively clueless “meta” parents.

Sometimes you’ve just got to push the baby bird out of the nest.

Now that I think of it, Revenant does kinda act like a slightly less crazy version of Kelsier.
And “common sense and wisdom” are Tyler’s superpowers. Those traits aren’t very common in this world.
Common sense and wisdom aren’t normal abilities in our world…
