Social interaction should help with the first, given that he’s been pretty sheltered. For the second, to be honest, I don’t think he wants to be a hero.
I’m pretty sure he definitely doesn’t want to be, the real question is WHY are they making him be? Why can’t they just find another FISS who is actually qualified to take Atlas’s mantle?
He is blow average super on his planet and everyone else their tried to kill him (for no reason). The only friend he had was properly the computer and now he is stuck on a planet where the new people in charge want to send him against people that will properly want to kill him (For an actual reason). At least the playstation gives him respect.
Herschel seems to have a lot of experience with kids. He may work out a cure for Forak’s learned helplessness. Anyway, those game wins actually are Forak’s only independent achievements. His familiarity with starships is the result of training; he had to learn to do the games.
>.> Did anyone else just notice that the Revenant seems unwilling to talk to Cecil? We’ve seen him fighting dinosaur people, hanging from a rope, and dealing with gods knows what else while advising Moonshadow. What is he doing now?
I’ve seen swearwords in the comments, and given the context of the comic, don’t you think it would be hilarious if there was some filter that replaced any swearing with random dictionary words? 😀
Bah. Scalzi and I have the same bad comment behavior penalty? As much as I love PS238, I may have to shift over entirely to running obnoxious comments through the Swedish Chef generator instead.
I can’t wait to find out who is troublesome enough for the Revenant to admit he’s busy. I’m thinking either whoever the Joker analogue is, or the government — specifically the IRS.
Who says Forak’s definition of “achievements” is the same as Zodon’s?
“I will erase all of your achievements”, lowercase-a, no context specified, actually sounds like a credible supervillain threat- not “I will delete some data from your hard drive” but “I will destroy all evidence of your existence”.
If Forak misinterpreted the latter as the former, that doesn’t mean he’s an idiot to be cowed. It means he’s been the victim of an error in translation… or he’s been so worn down by his life back home that he doesn’t think he *has* any achievements that aren’t of the Playstation variety.
If Zodon had actually threatened to wipe Forak’s Playstation data, and Forak had misinterpreted it as an actual threat, I could see where you’re coming from. But obeying because he thinks Zodon threatened his Playstation achievements makes him just as easily cowed whether it’s what Zodon actually meant or not.
(Also, apparently if you have the print comics you can just about make out the threat, and he does specify that he’s talking about the Playstation.)
Poor guy. Probably the only thing ever felt like actually accomplished in his whole life.
He’d probably be better off if he actually WAS 8 years old, come to think of it.
Of course it would be that.
And now Forak’s dirty secret is officially out.
Zodon really is an evil genius.
*facepalm* I have no idea right now what it’ll take to turn this guy into an adult, let alone a hero.

Because this poor schmuck will do whatever the military do, whitout questions, perhaps? Non of those pesky moral debates.

Brilliant! Especially right now with the Zodon ark.
I’m pretty sure there are a couple of WordPress plugins that do that. I know John Scalzi does that to persistent trolls, before banhammering them.

holyshit Revenent is a bit busy…considering whats been background to their conversations before what the hell could be going on!

This kind of seems the wrong way round to me.
