    Wasn’t there a “no explosions” rule to the assignment?

      Hey, they *prevented* an explosion. That’s extra credit there.

      No, there was not. Per ../comic/04282008/, “no explosives”. There was nothing mentioned about whether there could be explosions made without explosives.

      That having been said, I’m pretty sure they used explosives to get into orbit. I guess it doesn’t count because if it *did*, using a car to get to their lab would disqualify them too. We depend too much on explosives in our daily lives to really rule them out for real.
